Engaging Children & Families Virtually

This Blackboard module was a virtual learning experience designed for children and families from grades K-5. This experience taught them how to grow their own herb garden at home. This helps learners explore nature, fulfill sensory needs, and bond with family members.

Introduction

Learners feel immediately welcomed with the personable instructor video and emojis to grab their attention. This helps increase buy-in and get a sense of community right away.

Instruction

Learning virtually is done best in short bursts to prevent cognitive overload. This module gives learners the base knowledge for building their garden and then sends them off to do just that!

Reflection

Learners have their own garden journal to share successes and failures privately with their instructor. This also is a great formative assessment tool for instructors to assess student success.
